ROOTed Rhythms is a digital poetry exhibition that celebrates the creative voices of emerging young, racialized writers in Canada. This website is a dedicated space for racialized poets aged 15 to 35 to share their creative works and connect with audiences across the country.

Selected submissions will be featured on the ROOTed Rhythms website and social media platforms, offering an opportunity to reach wider audiences and spark meaningful conversations about culture, heritage, and identity.
ROOTed Rhythms is driven by a mission to amplify underserved voices and use poetry as a medium to spark dialogue on pressing topics such as inclusion, equity, and representation.
This initiative addresses the gaps in access to artistic opportunities for young, racialized writers while creating a platform for storytelling that inspires connection and understanding. ROOTed Rhythms empowers these voices to take centre stage, creating a ripple effect that encourages dialogue, bridges communities, and celebrates Canadian culture.

Hi! My name is Lola, and I’m a student in the Health Sciences program at McMaster University. I started ROOTed Rhythms because I believe in the power of storytelling to create meaningful change.
Writing and poetry have been my passions for as long as I can remember. From scribbling poems on loose papers as a child to exploring complex themes of identity, culture, and belonging in my writing today, I’ve always turned to words as a way to express myself and make sense of the world around me.
Beyond poetry, I’ve always loved the arts. Music and songwriting have been integral to my creative journey, giving me another outlet to tell stories and explore emotions. The arts have always been a source of joy and connection in my life, and I’m excited to share that passion with others through ROOTed Rhythms.
