Behind these eyes a light still remains
I had to let go of much because I had so much to gain
Born from strain, my mother pushed me I came
I breathed my way in this life
With a heart as big as a crane
And I know you did the same
So trust me, and let me lead the way
I say this to you, with hopes you see it like an image with paint
I want to share this vision with you,
For those who are already safe
Those who want to be
And those who can’t
I can still see the night stars surrounding the planes
I can still see the community all come together in faith
I can still see the hawk who flys higher than it’s prey
And I can still see you and I both conquering the day
In the best ways we do the impossible
Like heal from pain
Work and slave
Go and stay
Create a way
Constant change
Use our brain
Getting paid
Light the flame
Cop that range
Pop champagne and celebrate
Because who we are is only A fragmentation of being great
I still give thanks
Because we eat
I play this music
That make both my eardrums
And heart beat
I’m so clean
Try not to crease
This all white T
It’s like a sheet
That covers what’s beneath the surface
The central system
That governs my absolute purpose
Functioning so well
It’s almost as if I were perfect
It makes me complete
Having a healthy heart
Arms, body, legs, hands, and feet
Made in His image to say the least
I don’t wanna preach
But without the good works
There can be no feast
Must I plead with my brothers
Need I speak to my sisters
Had there not been a God
Where would we flee?
What is love
Without L O V E?
How would we know it?
Who could we associate it to?
The L has a purpose
And so does the O V
Each belonging to the bigger picture
Each worthy of every thing it’s supposed to be
I pray, with these words
That somewhere half way we all can meet
For our future, present, and history
I can still see
You and me
about the poet
I am a coloured poet. Who has since entered the practice of writing rap and music, but has always had a love for writing poetry. Born and raised in the city of Toronto I built tuff skin and a natural talent for speaking on the things I experienced and envision for my community and the city as a whole. I am pleased to share this art piece with you about black people and the courage to always believe in ourselves no matter the obstacles we face. We are better as one. One love God Bless.
